Major Core Requirements (21 SCH)

ED 520 Educational Research Literature and Techniques (3 SCH - take first or second term)

AHED 520 Professions and Practice: Adult and Higher Education (3 SCH)

AHED 526 Adult Learning and Development (3 SCH)

AHED 527 Program Planning (3 SCH)

AHED 528 Instructional Design and Methodology (3 SCH)

Elective in Instructional Technology (3 SCH - ITED 501, 511 or other)

AHED 588 Graduate Capstone: Teaching/Training Symposium (3 SCH - taken last term)  

Professional Focus Area (12 SCH total) options:

 (1) Human Resource Development/Adult Education, consisting of:

AHED 513 Introduction to Human Resource Development

AHED 514 Workforce Training and Development

AHED 515  Leading and Consulting for Organizational Change and Development

AHED 516  Group Dynamics and Communication Skills (to be developed in near term)

(2) Instructional Technology (ITED) - (does not include the required Technology elective)

See ITED website for selection of courses; these courses are delivered fully on-line in 7-week short terms

(3) Higher Education, consisting of:

AHED 505 Higher Education in the 21st Century

AHED 506 Higher Education Governance and Funding

AHED 507 Student Services Administration

AHED 508 College Teaching and the Professorate (to be developed in near term)

(4) Discipline-Specific Instruction (12 SCH in a single graduate discipline)

Options at this campus include History, English, Criminal Justice, Psychology, Political Science, Special Education, Reading; transferred graduate coursework may be used

Note: Students may transfer up to 12 hours from prior graduate work, but coursework must be aligned with nature of core or the focus area to be substituted in degree plan; approval from program coordinator is required.

Final Graduation Requirements, in addition to passing all coursework with an overall Grade Point Average of 3.0, are: (1) Passing score on comprehensive examination covering all core courses and a portion of the focus area; and (2) successful completion of graduate capstone AHED 588 Teaching/Training Symposium taken in final term
