Any act of violence or threatened act of violence against a person with whom the individual is or has been involved in a sexual or dating relationship. This includes threats, assault, property damage, and violence or threat of violence to one’s self or to the family members of the sexual or romantic partner when used as a method of coercion, control, punishment, intimidation or revenge. The existence of the relationship is determined based on consideration of the length of the relationship, the type of relationship, and the frequency of interaction between the persons involved in the relationships. For criminal proceeding, the following are applicable definitions.
Violence committed by a person who is or has been in a social relationship of a romantic or intimate nature with the victim were the existence of the relationship is determined based on consideration of the lengthen of the relations, the type of relationship, and the frequency of interaction between the persons involved in the relationships.
A felony or misdemeanor crime of violence committed by a current or former souse of intimate partner of the victim, by a person whom the victim shares a child in common, by a person who is cohabitating with or has cohabitant with the victim as a spouse, by a person similarly situated to a spouse of the victim under the domestic or family violence law applicable in Texas, or by any other person against an adult or youth victim who is protected from the persons acts laws applicable in Texas.
