Millers Analogies Test (MAT)

The Miller Analogies Test (MAT) is a high-level mental ability test requiring the solution of problems stated as analogies. It consists of 120 partial analogies that are to be completed in 60 minutes. Fluency in the English language, a broad knowledge of literature, philosophy, history, science, mathematics, and fine arts, and the ability to reason out relationships may contribute to performance on the MAT. There is no foreign-language edition of the MAT. No one is permitted to use a dictionary or any other reference aid when taking the test.

Registration

To register for the MAT, please contact A&M-Texarkana's testing center at (903) 223-3072 or testingcenter@tamut.edu with your date/time preference.  If circumstances prevent you from keeping your appointment, please contact the testing center to reschedule within 24-hours.

Fees and Optional Services

  • $80.00 - Fee may be paid by cash, check or money order made payable to Texas A&M University-Texarkana (TAMUT) at the time of testing.
  • $5.00 - assessed upon your 2nd reschedule request.

Fee is nonrefundable.

What To Bring

You must present two valid (i.e., unexpired) forms of identification (ID). Your primary form of ID must be government-issued and contain both your photograph and your signature. The second form of ID is not required to have your photograph or signature.

 Valid forms of secondary ID include:
  • Driver's license
  • Government-issued identification card or passport

Valid forms of secondary ID include:

  • Credit card (with or without a photograph)
  • Library card
  • Utility bill with the candidate’s name and address appearing exactly the same as on the primary for of ID

Prohibited Items

Candidates may not have any reference materials or electronic devices while taking the MAT, including:

  • Books (reference or otherwise)
  • Papers and/or notes
  • Rulers

Any electronic devices, including:

  • Calculators (including watch calculators)
  • Cameras
  • Cell phones
  • Headphones
  • Pagers
  • PDAs
  • Recording devices

Also, candidates are not allowed to have the following items in the testing room while taking the MAT:

  • Any writing instruments other than pencils to use with the provided scratch paper
  • Any food or beverages
  • A hat with a bill or brim (unless permission is obtained in advance from Pearson by submitting an Accommodations Request Form)
  • Purses, backpacks, briefcases, etc.

Scoring Information

You will see your unofficial score as soon as you complete testing. Official score reports will be sent to you and to the schools of your choice by Pearson Assessment. According to the Candidate Information Bulletin: “You will receive your personal score report two to three weeks from the date that Pearson Assessment receives your test.”

Retaking the MAT

Candidates that wish to retake the MAT must be sure to provide their retest admission ticket if the exam was completed within the past 12 months. This is a MAT policy. If an examinee retaking the MAT is administered the same form more than once in a twelve-month period, the examinee’s retest score will be voided and will not be reported to any institution.
