Testing Information

  • Most of our graduate programs utilize results from a standardized test as a part of the admission decision. The table below identifies the degree programs that use data from such instruments as well as what test you must take. Several really important pieces of information regarding test scores: make sure you have them sent here to Texas A&M University - Texarkana. Test scores older than 5 years are not accepted and you MUST retest. We offer the Miller Analogy Test (MAT) here on campus, but do not offer the GRE or GMAT.  You will need to find the closest testing center for those tests.
  • Does my score really matter? YES! Each program that uses test scores pays very close attention to the scaled score (percentile rank) for your results. In some cases, these data, along with other factors, may cause a student to either be NOT accepted or only provisionally admitted. If you are provisionally admitted to a program, this CAN have an impact on your financial aid.
  • BUT....what if I'm a really bad test taker? Each of our programs recognize that some students do not test well, but may have the ability to excel in their degree program. This is why each of graduate programs is developing a comprehensive scoring rubric to assess students across multiple axes. Please see the Admissions Rubrics section for specific information for each program. Although tests scores have been correlated with outcomes in graduate studies, there are exceptions. DO NOT let one test determine your educational future. If you have reservations about test taking or fear your results are too low for acceptance into a program, contact the Office of Graduate Studies and Research.
