What does EL look like?

EL as we interpret it refers to students doing learning while learning to do, connecting what they are learning with "real world" questions and work. The central goal is to distance our students and instructional practices from passive-recipient styles of learning. Our vision is that the pinnacle of EL will be experiences of authentic practice within students' disciplines, their lives, or both, supported by active learning techniques in the classroom and co-curricular activities that broaden students' experiences across disciplines, settings, people, groups, and geography. As we operationally define it, EL refers to deliberately created circumstances that are active - inquiring or creative - in nature, authentic in context, and reflective by design.
