History

The History program at Texas A&M University-Texarkana offers students the opportunity to study a variety of periods of history in order to gain specific knowledge of the topics in questions, but also to develop skills in analysis, communication, and problem-solving.

What You’ll Learn from Us

The bachelor’s degree program is designed to prepare students for lifelong learning as well as a wide variety of life paths, including post-graduate studies, teacher certification programs, professional schools, public service, and innumerable positions in the private sector.

The Master of Science in History is a 36 semester-credit-hour degree that is intended for students who are interested in developing a deeper understanding and appreciation for history.  It is especially valuable for those planning to study for a Ph.D., those wishing to teach at the university or community college level, and secondary teachers wanting to increase their historical knowledge and ability to teach dual-credit and advanced placement courses.

What You’ll Do Here

The History program engages students with the human past, encourages students to acquire insights into historic processes, and prepares majors for responsible democratic citizenship. Additionally, department faculty members hone students’ ability to analyze and think critically about historical works and issues, and they assist students with developing the professional skills necessary for expressing themselves clearly in writing.

Students who are interested in teaching careers may pursue certification in three areas:
