Guidelines for Concurrent Credit Courses and Developmental Education Courses

Students must adhere to the guidelines below to be in compliance with A&M-Texarkana’s Developmental Education Plan:

  • Students are limited to taking no more than 13 SCH per semester if they need two (2) or more developmental education courses.
  • If students need any one part of the TSI requirement (mathematics, reading, or writing), they MUST BE ENROLLED in that course while being enrolled in other academic course work.  Students may NOT elect to take credit courses without concurrent enrollment in the requisite developmental course for which they have not provided proof of TSI completion.
  • Students who have satisfied the mathematics TSI requirement, but not the reading, and/or writing TSI requirements, must demonstrate mastery of the reading and/or writing college readiness skills in INRW II or the required re-test of the TSIA before enrolling in any college level course (with minimum exceptions listed below).
  • The academic courses below may be taken concurrently with one or more developmental education courses (excluding READ 0301, ENGL 0300, ENGL 0301, and INRW I):
    • ART 1301 Art Appreciation
    • BCIS 1305 Business Computer Science
    • DRAM 1310 Introduction to Theater
    • GEOG 1303 World Regional Geography
    • MUSI 1301 Art Appreciation
    • SPCH 1315 Public Speaking
    • Any Activity Course
    • Students who have satisfied the reading and writing TSI requirements, but not the mathematics TSI requirements, must demonstrate mastery of the mathematics college readiness skills in MATH 0300, 0301, AND 0302 or the required re-test of the Math TSIA before enrolling in a college level mathematics, science, or engineering course.

Drop Policy

An instructor may initiate a drop through the Registrar’s Office when a student has missed two weeks of classes:

  • We allow 4 absences for classes that meet on Tuesdays and Thursdays; the instructor may withdraw the student after the 5th absence.
  • We allow 6 absences for classes that meet on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays; the instructor may withdraw the student after the 7th absence.
