Academic Master Plan Committee

Charge: Provide leadership and guidance in developing an Academic Master Plan in three phases:

Phase 1: (Completed by May 30, 2014) Determine an Academic Vision/Mission and write an Academic Vision/Mission Statement that communicates how Texas A&M-Texarkana will become “distinguished” among higher education institutions in the Southwest.  In this effort, we will not focus on a specific discipline or program, but determine an overarching approach to educating students at A&M-Texarkana. . . What kind of university do we want to be?  What do we think we can be great at?  What do we value as key to providing a “quality education”?  What can be our “niche” in the competitive arena of higher education?

Phase 2:  (Completed by December 31, 2014, in concert with development of the institution’s Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP) as a component of the SACSCOC reaffirmation in 2016.)

Develop an overarching plan for how to make the Academic Vision/Mission a reality:

  1. Who will we teach?  (The primary consideration will be the personal/academic characteristics of our target student audience, but will likely include geographical location, also.)
  2. What will we teach?  (This includes general education requirements, degree programs, minors, concentrations, certificates.)
  3. How will we teach?  (This question addresses how we will deliver the curriculum across the institution.)

Phase 3:  (Completed by March 1, 2015 in concert with FY16 budget planning) Develop a three-year Academic Master Plan aligned to the Academic and Student Affairs division plan that includes a single set of long range goals and annual objectives and departmental/college strategies to accomplish the objectives
