How Do I Apply? 

Step 1. Submit application for admission to Texas A&M University- Texarkana via the link of Admissions webpage

  • Designate Pre-Nursing as your major
  • Meet all University admission requirements

Step 2. Submit application to the nursing program by February 15 each year.

  • Complete and submit all Admission Requirements as outlined for the BSN-Traditional track program by February 15.

You will receive notice of preliminary acceptance into the program and return the reservation card, reserving your place in the program. You will achieve full admission into the nursing program after completion of the pre-requisite courses. You will be required to maintain 2.8 throughout the nursing curriculum.

Requirements for admission

  • Student must be within 3 semester credit hours of completion of all core and prerequisite courses by spring semester.
  • Maintain an overall GPA of 2.8 or above
  • The required 2.8 GPA in sciences will be determined using the following course: Anatomy & Physiology I & II, Chemistry, Microbiology, Math and Nutrition courses.
  • Completion of science course within 5 years of anticipated date of admission to the nursing program.
  • Review Admission Scoring Criteria to understand the scoring process for applicant review. Highest scoring gets priority for admission consideration.
  • Submit two letters of reference from faculty, advisors, or others who know you in a scholarly or work-related role by February 15. The letters should describe the relationship with you, your personal characteristics (punctuality, teamwork, integrity, perseverance) and contact information.
  • Submit letter of intent, explaining your interest in nursing as your profession, and why you chose this program of nursing by February 15.
  • Results of the BSN Test of Essential Academic Skills with minimum score of
    • Math 64%
    • Reading 72%

Information and sign-up for the BSN TEAS test is available at https://www.atitesting.com. Study materials are available on the website and are highly recommended. You will take the test at the Texas A&M University Testing Center, Room 330. Visit the Testing center website at http://tamut.edu/Academics/Student-Support/Testing-Center. You may retake this test one time. The highest score achieved will count for each category.

Professional Liability Insurance is required of all students. You will have about a $15.00 charge each semester with tuition for a group policy, which is much less expensive than providing your own coverage!
