Master of Science Degree in History

Master of Science in History:  The Master of Science in History is a thirty-six semester credit hour degree that allows students the opportunity to focus on course work in history. A student with this degree must have a baccalaureate degree from an accredited institution with a minimum of 2.5 GPA on the last 60 hours of undergraduate courses.  Individuals who graduate with this degree are eligible to teach dual credit courses in high school (if they are certified to teach in public school) or they may qualify to teach at a community college.  The Master of Science in History also provides a solid foundation for those who wish to pursue a Ph. D. in History.  Finally, the Master of Science in History is a degree that satisfies students who simply enjoy studying history and want to read and write about history.

 Degree Requirements: 36 Semester Credit Hours (SCH)


  • HIST 500: Historiography 30 SCH

  • HIST 501: Methods and Principles of Historical Research: 3 SCH

  • Graduate-level history courses: 30 SCH
