Common Reading Experience

This is a fantastic opportunity for you to share reading and learning experiences with your classmates and faculty. This experience allows you to bond with each other as a community of learners. Not only will you share a reading experience, you will come together as a community to participate in conversations and activities on campus and beyond associated with our annual academic theme. This year’s theme is environmental studies.

The Conundrum

The common reading experience book selection is The Conundrum: How Scientific Innovation, Increased Efficiency, and Good Intentions Can Make Our Energy and Climate Problems Worse by David Owen. You’ll receive the book in your freshman course (IS 1100). During the semester, you’ll discuss the book with your classmates and faculty. One of the highlights of this program is you will have the opportunity to meet and discuss the book with the author, David Owen, when he visits campus April 9, 2015.  Owen's keynote event will be from 7-8:30 in Eagle Hall.
