Institutional Review Board

What is the Institutional Review Board (IRB), and what do we do?

The IRB at TAMUT helps researchers, participants, and the community to be confident that research conducted at the university is ethical and protects human subjects consistent with the Belmont Report principles.

If you're a researcher, we provide you with training to help you protect human subjects in your research, and we review of your research to help you feel confident you are effectively balancing risks and benefits of the research. We are here to help you conduct the best and safest research you can.

If you're a participant in research, we help protect your interests in the research process by helping researchers evaluate their research for potential risks to you, their participants. We also are here to help if you believe your welfare has been or may be compromised by research you participated in.

If you're a member of the community, we help you to feel confident that the research at the university is conducted in accord with federal, state, and local ethical norms, regulations, and guidelines for research. If you believe that human subjects research at the university is not acting in the public interest or compromising the public trust, we are here to receive that information and act upon it.

Note: THE FEDERALLY MANDATED INSTITUTIONAL REVIEW BOARD (IRB) COORDINATES WITH THE HUMAN RESEARCH PROTECTION PROGRAM TO ASSURE THE PROTECTION OF HUMAN RESEARCH PARTICIPANTS AND TO ENSURE TEXAS A&M UNIVERSITY-TEXARKANA'S COMPLIANCE WITH THE LAWS AND REGULATIONS GOVERNING HUMAN SUBJECT RESEARCH. ANY SUCH RESEARCH CONDUCTED BY TEXAS A&M UNIVERSITY-TEXARKANA FACULTY, STAFF, OR STUDENTS MUST BE REVIEWED AND APPROVED PRIOR TO BEING INITIATED.

If you are faculty, staff or a student conducting a project in which you are collecting data from human subjects with the intent of disseminating the results beyond the confines of the universityyou must complete the Standard IRB Application.

If you are an instructor who embeds a required research project in a course, please use the table below to determine whether the Classroom IRB Application or the Standard IRB Application is appropriate for your project.
