Dr. Drew Morton, assistant professor of Mass Communication and 2015 Scholar of the Year at Texas A&M University-Texarkana, will screen Spike Lee’s 1989 seminal film, “Do the Right Thing,” on Tuesday, Nov. 1, at 6 p.m. in University Center 210 on the A&M-Texarkana campus, 7101 University Ave., Texarkana, Texas

The event, which is part of the 2016-17 Program for Learning and Community Engagement lecture series, is free and open to the public.

Dr. Morton, along with Dr. Doug Julien, associate professor of English, will be introducing and engaging in a question-and-answer session about the film, which chronicles racial tension on a summer day in New York City.

“’Do the Right Thing’ is one of the most important films of the American cinema and was deemed culturally significant by the Library of Congress in 1999 with inclusion in the American Film Hall of Fame,” Dr. Morton said. “The diverse cast includes Danny Aiello, Ossie Davis, Ruby Dee, Bill Nunn, John Turturro, Samuel L. Jackson and Rosie Perez.”
