A&M-Texarkana Offers Project Management Certificate Program

Published: December 12, 2016

Texas A&M University-Texarkana, in conjunction with the Mount Pleasant Small Business Development Center and Successful Projects, recently launched a certificate program for people who are interested in expanding their knowledge and skills in project management.

“Participants have already registered for the program here, and new participants may contact us now and start the program at any time,” said Executive Director of Extended Education and Community Development Shelley Callaway, who was instrumental in bringing the program into the university.

“This Project Management Certificate is a blended program providing online learning with a personable component,” Caraway said. “The program includes scheduled individual instructor sessions that provide a personal coaching relationship with a credentialed and experienced instructor. As we were developing certificates in our continuing education program we were attracted to the individualized guidance that the instructors brought to this program.”

There are three program track options: 1) The Fundamentals of Project Management, 2) Project Management Professional® Exam Preparation and 3) Advanced Topics in Project Management. Participants choose their 56-hour track and six-session dates, which may start at any time and take up to a maximum of one year to complete.

“Program instructors provide individualized coaching, oversight and regular feedback on the participants’ assignments, online progress and their personal concerns, including how the knowledge will be used in the participants’ current or desired field of practice,” Caraway said. “The instructors reinforce a disciplined program approach that is reflective of behaviors that lead to success in project management, including the rigorous use of time reporting based learning logs.”

The Frank P. Saladis Certificate in Project Management program is unique in the fact it allows the participant to choose the instructor they will work with during the program.

“Industry alignment between the program participant and the instructor is one of the many strengths of our program,” said Kay Wais, program director. “In this program, people who want to manage projects in a specific industry will not have to work with instructors who come from an entirely different field. We have instructors from IT, construction, healthcare, manufacturing, marketing, education, banking, service and other areas.”

Texas A&M University-Texarkana is the first provider of this program in the state of Texas.
