Dr. Doris Davis, Regents professor of English at Texas A&M University-Texarkana, will present “Male Composers: Female Muses” in recognition of Women’s History Month, on Tuesday, March 7, at noon in the Tri-State Iron & Metal Atrium on the third floor of the University Center on the A&M-Texarkana campus, 7101 University Ave., Texarkana, Texas.

Hosted by the University Honors program, Dr. Davis’ piano performance will include pieces by Poulenc, Beethoven, Chopin, Bach, Rachmaninoff and Grieg. In the lecture portion of the presentation, she will speak about how the pieces were inspired by certain important women in these composers’ lives.

Dr. Davis has served on the A&M-Texarkana faculty since 1987. She also serves as director of the East Texas Writing Project and general editor of Red River Valley Books. Her research interests include women writers, the relationship between music and literature, and poetry. She has published various articles on these topics.

The University Honors Colloquia are a series of scholarly talks and presentations offered throughout the academic year. They provide a venue for University Honors students and faculty to present their research.

The University Honors program also brings speakers to campus from outside the university community.

The presentation is open to the public. Refreshments will be served.
