Texas A&M University-Texarkana
Records Retention

Texas A&M University-Texarkana is responsible for adhering to the Texas Government Code, Section 441.180 and The Texas A&M University System regulation 61.99.01.  An active and continuing records management program is required of all state agencies to preserve and protect state records in an economical and efficient manner.  All state records, regardless of medium, must be managed in accordance with the approved retention schedule.

Effective records management provides control over the entire life cycle of a record and improves the efficiency of the university.  The retention schedule identifies and protects vital and confidential records while allowing for storage and disposal of information held for the appropriate period of time.  Properly managed records can be efficiently retrieved; historical records will be preserved for archival purposes.  Records management provides a cost effective method for tracking active and inactive records and enables accurate access by the public.  Records management also prevents adverse consequences during audits, legal investigations, or litigations.
