Senior History Major

I am a senior currently pursuing my bachelor’s degree in History. I plan on graduating this May. I am a member of the Teacher Prep Program, and I currently am a student-teacher in an eighth grade U.S. History class at Atlanta Middle School in my hometown of Atlanta, Texas. I also tutor children after school on the same campus. I came to A&M-Texarkana as a transfer student from Texarkana College. I choose to come to this school to remain close to home while pursuing my education. The warm faculty encouraged me to join A&M-Texarkana and pushed me to achieve heights I did not know that I was capable of achieving.

I became a charter member of the History Club, the communications chair of the local sorority National Sorority Interest Group (NSG), and a student-worker for Graduate Studies under Dr. Bill McHenry. As a sorority member, my sisters and I were active in community service, academia, and sisterhood. I have been on the Dean's List. I helped the sorority pursue our dream of joining a National PanHellenic Conference Sorority, and we were able to welcome Alpha Sigma Alpha as the first national sorority on campus.

During the 2014 and 2015 school year, I won the Bennie Wathall "Best Paper in History" Award for my essays over historical events, people, and literature. Overall, my experiences at A&M-Texarkana have helped to better me as a student and citizen of our community.
