young writers

The Summer 2016 Young Writers’ Workshop will take place on the main campus of A&M-Texarkana July 11 – 22 from 8:30am to 12:00pm each weekday.

This summer, our young writers will have three workshops from which to choose:

  • A Walk on the Wild Side (grades 2-6):
Our youngest group of writers will explore various creatures of the animal world through point-of-view short stories and encyclopedia entries. In the end, students will collect their encyclopedia entries and create a classroom animal encyclopedia.
  • I Am the Arklatex (grades 7-12):
Our older creative writers will showcase the uniqueness of the people, places, and things of the Arklatex region through the ancient poetic form of the Ode and graphic vignettes.
  • More than Words: Technical Writing for College and Career Readiness (grades 9-12):
College- or career-bound high school students will have the opportunity to explore how effective writing goes beyond words through mastery of the proposal and infographic genres.

All workshops are under the direction of current area English Language Arts teachers or current preservice teachers from the College of Education and Liberal Arts.
