As part of the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act, Texas A&M University (TAMUT) received a total of $1,525,001 in Higher Education Emergency Relief Funds (HEERF).  In order to receive this allocation, we signed and returned to the Department of Education the Certification and Agreement and the assurance that the institution has used, or intends to use, no less than 50 percent ($762,500.50) of the funds received under Section 18004(a)(1) of the CARES Act to provide Emergency Financial Aid Grants to students.

TAMUT invited, via email, 1,188 eligible students to apply for the CARES Act HEERF.  Upon guidance from the Texas A&M University System leadership, these funds were to be used to retain students so that they could finish their degree and approximately half of the available funds ($762,500.50) was to be awarded between May – August, with the other half to be awarded to students in the fall semester.  To date, TAMUT has awarded $376,624.25 to 255 students utilizing the awarding process developed by the Emergency Aid Grants Committee and approved by the Texas A&M University System leadership.  The remaining $385,876.25 will be awarded early in the fall semester through a second launch of the application.
