COVID-19 Testing

Should I Get Tested?

The Texas A&M University System is providing a limited number of tests each month to TAMUT to ensure the health and well-being of the campus community. Testing may only be provided to students, faculty, and staff. Other members of the broader community, including family members of campus community members may not be tested and should seek medical assistance from a private healthcare provider.

Unless otherwise indicated by an academic requirement (for example, if a negative test is required for a student to enter clinicals in nursing or student teaching) or as required by the NAIA/Red River Conference for an athletic staff member or student-athlete to participate in practice or competition, tests should only be performed on:

1. Individuals exhibiting symptoms for COVID-19 as described at cdc.gov

  • Fever/chills
  • Cough
  • Shortness of breath/difficulty breathing
  • Fatigue
  • Muscle or body aches
  • Headache
  • New loss of taste or smell
  • Sore throat
  • Congestion or runny nose
  • Nausea or vomiting
  • Diarrhea

NOTE: this list is being continuously updated, consult CDC page for the latest information.

2.  Individuals who have been in close contact with a person presumed- or lab-confirmed positive with COVID-19.

NOTE: testing of an otherwise asymptomatic individual who is a close contact should be delayed after exposure to the positive individual for at least three days due to the time it takes for the virus to incubate and generate a significant viral load. Testing sooner may yield a false-negative test result.

Testing will only be available by appointment, barring change in current conditions.  Call Jill at 903-334-6755 or email jwhittington@tamut.edu to schedule an appointment.

If testing is needed for international travel requirements, call Jill to discuss timing of test to ensure results are received in time and comply with travel needs.

Those tested will receive results via email from the testing lab and, if positive, will also be contacted by email with further guidance.
