Reskilling Grant

Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board Reskilling Grant

We’re very excited to announce that Texas A&M University – Texarkana has been awarded a $300,000 Reskilling Grant from the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board to be used to assist students that have been negatively impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic and need to reskill or upskill to get back into the workforce, and Texas students who have previously stopped out of higher education institutions without completing a postsecondary credential.

To be eligible for one of these Reskilling Grants, you must meet the following:

  • Be a Texas resident eligible for in-state tuition;
  • Have filed a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA);
  • Have financial need and be eligible for federal Title IV aid;
  • Have affirmed you were affected by COVID-19;
  • Be enrolled in an eligible undergraduate program;
  • Have not been enrolled in an accredited postsecondary institution in the previous academic (long) semester or previous six months; and
  • Have completed at least 50% of your degree program

How do I know if I've completing 50% of my degree program?

If you don’t know if you’ve completed 50% of your degree, you can request to have your academic record reviewed by an advisor by emailing advising@tamut.edu with "Degree Audit for Reskilling Grant" in the subject line.  Please be sure to include your full name, student ID number (if you remember it), and the degree program in which you’re interested.  An advisor will review your academic record and reach out to you to discuss your options.

How large of a grant will I qualify for?

To determine your eligibility, you must first complete a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).  Once the Financial Aid office receives your application and any required supporting documentation, your financial need will be calculated based on the federal methodology and cost of attendance, and you be notified of any financial aid for which you qualify.  If you still have unmet need after any gift aid (Pell grant, state/institutional grants, scholarships), you will be awarded up to the maximum allowable ($2,500/semester) required to meet your calculated financial need.

Can I use this grant to pay for room and board?

No, this grant can only be used to pay tuition and fees.  This grant will not produce a refund check for you to spend on housing or other items.
