Eligibility Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • 3.0 GPA, cumulative or last 60 hours

To apply for admission, you must complete the following: 1) passing score on TExES exam or proof of standard teaching certificate, 2) schedule time  in testing center to  complete letter of intent, 3) taken the one of the following: Graduate Record Examination (GRE) – Verbal & Quantitative Reasoning and Analytical Writing OR Miller’s Analogy Test (MAT).  There is no minimum cut-off score for either test, rather the program reviews scores as part of a holistic picture of the candidate. Documentation for item #1 and #3 will be requested on the university application along with an upload of your resume.

Admission Process:

Candidates must complete all steps prior to admission to the program and starting coursework. Steps include 1) application to university, 2) program application documents, 3) application to certification program (if appropriate).  Prior to applying, you will need to determine your area of concentration for the degree.  Reading Specialist, Professional Education Diagnostician and Teaching Certification are certification areas that will require admittance into the certification program as required by the Texas Education Agency (TEA).   1. University Application: Go to link to apply. Create account as instructed. Complete application as a “Graduate” student. On page 5, scroll down and select “MS in Curriculum & Instruction”. Select term you plan to start coursework and select concentration of interest. Submit documents as required. There is a $30 application fee.
  2. Application Documents:
    • Have official all transcripts sent to admissions office. Do this early as delayed transcripts slow down the admissions process.
    • Official TOEFL scores taken within the last two years (international students only).
  3. Program Application: For those seeking Reading Specialist, Professional Education Diagnostician, or Teaching Certification, please apply to the certification program per Texas Education Agency requirement through Tk20 link. Scroll to bottom and click on “admissions”. Create account and complete the appropriate application. There is no charge to complete the application. However, please note, when you submit this application, a non-refundable $35 application fee will be added to your student account. NOTE: Upon receipt of program admission, candidates must formally accept admission on Tk20 per Texas Education Agency requirements.
