Adapting Physical Activity Header

The Master of Science in Curriculum and Instruction with the specialization in Adapted Physical Activity is designed to provide Kinesiology major students and local Physical Education teachers the opportunity for advanced study in Adapted Physical Activity.

The APA master degree program focuses on a programing and research-based approach to community health, recreation, rehabilitation, and school PETE including planning, implementing, monitoring, and management of sports and activities in Adapted Physical Activity for individuals with disabilities. Students who graduate from this program will possess in-depth understanding of  Paralytic sport and programs, APE motor-skill teaching/training methods, selected sub-disciplines in sport sciences including, but not limited to, research design, pedagogy, assessment, curriculum, motor skill learning, health and fitness, and exercise psychology. 

The program aims at preparing Adapted Physical Activity teachers/coaches to take on a leadership role in their schools as well as advancing their knowledge of adapted PE for students with disabilities in communities.  University facilities create an ideal venue for graduate students to nurture their professional development and practices. The department of Kinesiology is establishing a well-equipped biomechanical laboratory, motor-skill lab, and sports-skill teaching venues.
