Doctoral Admissions

Admission Eligibility
Those interested in applying for admission must meet the following:
  • Completed Master's degree
  • Documented evidence of strong academic achievement and scholarship ability
  • Interest in leadership role and commitment to education

Admission Process

Students may be admitted year-round to start their cognate coursework; cohort coursework begins in the spring semester. Cognate courses are graduate courses (12 SCH) beyond an initial master's degree that meet a candidate's long-term goals. Cognate courses may include but are not limited to, principal or superintendent certification courses or higher education courses. Cognates must be approved by the program chair. Doctoral students must apply to and be accepted by the A&M‑Texarkana Scholars of Practice doctoral program to receive financial aid.

  1. University application: Click this link for online application. On the “Program Choice” page, choose “EDD in Education Leadership”. If you plan to start superintendent courses before cohort coursework then choose “superintendent certification” as the concentration. There is $30 processing fee/$50 for non-residents.
  2. Required Admission items on university application:

  1. Upload the following documents to university application:A. Letter of interest (500 word min.) indicating how applicants plans to use doctoral degree to improve education and meet career objectives.B. Curriculum vitae/resume including demonstrated experience in an educational environment (public or private schools, private sector, higher education, state or federal agencies).
  2. Complete Federal Student Aid (FASFA) upon submitting application to university. 
  3. Submit official scores for one of the following exams (<5 years). 

4. Official transcripts can be mailed to:

  5. If international student, submit official TOEFL scores (within last 2 years) to university from TOEFL website.

6. Upload three completed reference forms to the application. See reference form. At least one reference form should be from individual with a related terminal degree (e.g., EdD or PhD).
