Degree Plans and Student Advising
Degree Plans
The Chemistry program at A&M - Texarkana offers courses that fulfill undergraduate degree (B.S.) requirements in two concentrations:
(a) General Chemistry
The general chemistry concentration prepares students for careers in the chemistry field as well as pre-health. Following is a list of major courses required for this concentration

Satisfies Core Curriculum (General Education) Requirements |
Note: A minimum of 46 upper division hours (300 and 400 level courses) are required for this degree. Resident credit totaling 25% of the hours is required for the degree. A minimum GPA of 2.0 is required in three areas for graduation: Overall GPA, Institutional GPA, and Major GPA.
(b) Secondary Teacher Certification
The secondary teacher certification concentration prepared chemistry teachers in grades 7-12. Following is a list of major courses required for this concentration
Advising
All students who have declared Chemistry as their major, including freshmen and transfer students, must see a Chemistry faculty every semester before enrolling for next semester courses. A hold will be placed on the students’ records that will be removed only after students have had an advising session with their respective Chemistry faculty advisor.
Advising sessions are helpful to discuss curriculum, course load, as well as career options depending on the student progress in the Chemistry degree. For transfer students, CHEM faculty advising is paramount to identify the appropriate courses in the Chemistry degree in according to prerequisite constraints.
Academic advisors in UC (University Center) can assist students with adjustment to college life, monitor student’s academic progress, and advise students for scholarship opportunities.
