Early Alert/Intervention

Adjusting to the atmosphere of higher education can be challenging for some students. In partnership with faculty, Academic Advising utilizes an early alert/referral program, Starfish Connect, to better assist undergraduate students with these challenges. If students encounter difficulties meeting academic standards, faculty can refer students to academic advising, tutoring, or information technology for assistance with connecting to various campus resources. Students can also be flagged by faculty for excessive absences, low exam grades, lack of participation, low mid-term average, etc.  Flags are addressed and managed by academic advising through target outreach and coaching sessions.  These serve to offer perspective, nudge student action, and address the root cause of the behavior. Identifying at-risk students early enough to make a difference is critical to student success.
