Finding Support

Health and Personal Support Header

Social Health

The Office of Student Life and the Campus Activities Board are always planning events and activities to get you involved on campus! The best way to find out what’s happening on campus is through EagleSync, our platform that manages our student organizations and events. In addition to campus life, our community has a lot to offer! Check out the local happenings in Texarkana. Tip: Sign up for their newsletter and get a weekly email of the top 10 things to do that week!

Personal Health & Nutrition

Located in SCIT 114, the Eagle Pantry feeds student success by providing essential non-perishable and personal hygiene items to students. The pantry is available to any student in need. All you need to provide is your current student ID card. The days/hours of operations vary from month-to-month, but you can make an appointment at any time by emailing foodpantry@tamut.edu.

Our Campus Recreation Department strives to create a healthy environment that engages students in the pursuit of health and physical fitness. With the Patterson Student Center, the emphasis is on enjoying exercise for its own sake and learning fitness habits for life. This means that students have a place where they can focus on lifetime fitness goals and individual achievement and can find opportunities to improve their health and well-being. For more information as we adapt to COVID changes, follow us on Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram: @TAMUTCampusRec.

Mental Health

We encourage you to remember that this is an extraordinary moment when we all will find ourselves online and adapting activities to an online environment. Help each other and also your professors as we all adapt to keep teaching and learning at Texas A&M University-Texarkana.

Counseling Services continues to provide counseling services to our students via phone and/or Doxy.Me, which is a HIPAA compliant secure video chat platform. Counseling Services also continues to accommodate outreach requests via remote means.

There are many resources available for coping during COVID-19. HelpLine is a great resource if students need to talk about anything, and Calm is a wonderful self-help app for students to learn more ways to manage stress, anxiety and depression. Students can also visit TAMUT Counseling Center’s Facebook page for additional resources.

We invite you to stay connected with Counseling Services through social media: Facebook: TAMUT Counseling Center

COVID-19 – Managing Anxiety and Stress

In response to the COVID-19 outbreak, we would like to make everyone aware of some important information. The counselors on staff are licensed in Texas only. Therefore, they will only be able to provide psychotherapeutic services to students residing in Texas. However, they are able to provide supportive listening and coping skills to any student, regardless of physical location. If you need crisis services for emergency situations (such as suicidal or homicidal thoughts or an episode of psychosis), you will need to call 911. Our staff is trained in and using telemental health services to reach our students and you can contact our counseling cell for appointment information. The counseling cell number is: 903-276-8276. For more tips on managing anxiety and stress during an infectious disease outbreak, visit the CDC website.
