I use a student-centered approach to teaching, which is particularly effective in the field of counseling, where personalized learning and individual growth are critical. I prioritize students’ unique needs, learning styles, and goals by putting them at the center of the learning experience. This method acknowledges that each student brings their own backgrounds, experiences, and strengths to the classroom, resulting in a more inclusive and engaging learning environment.
I empower students with the tools needed to effectively navigate and support individuals during times of upheaval. These courses collectively demonstrate my commitment to preparing future counselors with a holistic understanding of counseling principles, psychological conditions, crisis management, and the dynamics of group interactions. Each class offers a unique lens through which students can explore the multifaceted nature of the counseling profession and its transformative impact on individuals and society.
Scholarship & Creative Activity
My research interests span critical areas that have a significant impact on both the counseling profession and the well-being of first responders. Given the unique challenges and stresses that these individuals face in their roles, my focus on the mental wellness of first responders addresses a pressing need.
My investigation of counselor identity, gatekeeping, and student engagement in graduate programs reflects a strong desire to help future counselors grow and become more effective. Counselor identity is crucial in shaping ethical and professional behavior, and my research in this area will most likely inform discussions about ethical standards and effective counselor development. Moreover, investigating gatekeeping practices ensures that the counseling profession upholds its standards of competence and ethics while supporting students' growth.
