Dr. Paula K. Songs is an Assistant Professor of Criminal Justice at Texas A&M University-Texarkana. As an educator, Dr. Songs teaches courses in criminal justice. Dr. Songs scholarly studies is focused on bringing awareness to the community, increasing identification of victims, and establishing specialized services for victims. Dr. Songs has presented at criminal justice national conferences, published an article, contributed to a book chapter, and designed a webinar on juvenile sex trafficking males.
Before joining Texas A&M Texarkana in 2022, Dr. Songs worked as an Adjunct Professor at Prairie View A&M University in Criminal Justice (2018-2021). Dr. Songs is currently serving as Advisor to the Criminal Justice Club at Texas A&M Texarkana.
Dr. Songs received her Ph.D. in Juvenile Justice from Prairie View A&M University (Prairie View, Texas) in 2020. She earned an M.S. in Criminal Justice from the University of Houston-Downtown (Houston, Texas) in 2009 and her B.A. in Political Science from Texas Southern University (Houston, Texas) in 1998.

Undergraduate Courses
Dr. Songs' scholarship focuses on one primary area: juvenile sex trafficking, specifically domestic minor sex trafficking males. The last publication appeared In an International Perspective on Contemporary Developments in Victimology: A Festschrift in Honor of Marc Groenhuijsen (Springer, 2020).
Through the years of teaching, Dr. Songs has learned to utilize and support students' desire for academic learning while understanding and remaining sensitive to their needs. One of the most important lessons as an educator is recognizing students from different cultures, ethnic backgrounds, and academic levels. Diverse students bring their aspirations that create an opportunity to foster and empower academically while in class. These teaching experiences has established the basis on which Dr. Songs teaching philosophy is grounded. Dr. Songs teaching philosophy furthermore is that all students can achieve their academic ambitions if their learning environment is student-centered and structured using different methods and appropriate academic techniques for learning.
