A&M Board of Regents Approve New Fees
The Texas A&M University System Board of Regents on May 1, 2013 approved tuition and fee increase requests for Texas A&M University Texarkana as well as sister institutions. The University sought approval for a new Intercollegiate Athletic fee and Green (recycling) fee and also asked for a $5 per semester credit hour (SCH) increase to the Technology Fee.
The Intercollegiate Athletic fee was approved by a student body referendum in the spring of 2012. The fee is still pending in the Texas legislature and signature by Governor Perry. If approved, students will pay $9 per SCH up to 12 semester credit hours or $108 per semester beginning with the fall of 2013. The fee will be used to initiate intercollegiate sports and build sports facilities.
The Green Fee or Recycling Fee was approved by the student body by referendum during the spring semester of 2013. The semester fee of $5 for fall and spring semesters and $2.50 for summer terms will begin with the fall 2013 semester. The fee will initiate and maintain a recycling program; including the purchase of receptacles, contract with the city and student workers to oversee the program.
The $5 increase in the Technology fee from $10 to $15 per SCH will be implemented for the Fall semester of 2013. The increase in this fee will address the technology needs related to the student information system (Banner) in collaboration with A&M – Commerce. The fee will also be used to implement a technology help desk.
Collectively, these mandatory and required fees will increase a full time student’s bill $188 per each long semester. Although this represent a 6.25% increase, A&M Texarkana will remain as a best value University in the State of Texas.
