Summer Professional Development Opportunities

Published: May 30, 2013

There are three new face-to-face workshops and one online workshop being offered this summer. Two offer CEU credits for completion. Register today and take advantage of this opportunity for professional development:

Designing Online Course Content for Student Engagement to Promote Student Learning Outcomes: Monday, June 10th through Friday, August 16th, Blackboard

This ten-week online workshop will introduce you to tools and techniques designed to engage students to promote student learning outcomes. You will look at the needs and characteristics of online learners, examine some online best practices, and get an overview of some free tools to help engage your online students. 5 CEU Credits Available!

Accessibility – Simple Steps to Compliance: Monday, June 24th, 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm, UC230

Accessibility is the new buzzword in today’s society, but nothing can strike fear into the heart of the educator faster than wondering if their online course is accessible and compliant. In this workshop you will learn some simple steps you can take to ensure that you design a course that considers the needs of all students and meets compliance standards for accessibility, long before it’s an issue.

BYOD – Embrace Student Devices in Your Classroom Teaching: Monday, July 8th, 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm, UC324

Today’s students come to your classroom carrying cell phones, tablets, and even laptops. You can ban them, tell them to put them away, or you can put them to use to make your course more engaging and interactive. This training will demonstrate some ways you can utilize student devices in the classroom including interactive polling, collaborative group work, “Twitter” conversations, virtual field trips, video and audio podcasting, video conferencing with “guest” speakers, and more. 2 CEU Credits Available!

Why Do I Need Blackboard? I Teach Face-to-Face! Monday, July 15th, 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm, UC231

You're a face-to-face instructor, so why do you have a Blackboard shell, and why should you care? This workshop will show you both pedagogical and expedient reasons face-to-face instructors should make use of Blackboard, and will list various ways Blackboard can support your face-to-face instruction.
