Dustin Nix awarded Student of the Year by the Association for the Promotion of Campus Activities

At the Association for the Promotion of Campus Activities’ (APCA) South Central Regional Programming conference held in Houston, Texas , Texas A&M University-Texarkana senior, Dustin Nix was awarded Student of the Year for 2013 -2014. Students who are part of a programming organization at APCA member institutions are eligible for the Student Programmer of the Year. The South Central Region is comprised of schools from Texas, Arkansas, Oklahoma, Louisiana, New Mexico, and Mississippi and represents over 200 Universities.

Dustin has been instrumental as a Student Programmer at A&M-Texarkana by working in the Office of Student Life. He is President-Elect of the Campus Activities Board (CAB) and currently serves as Vice President of Membership with CAB. He is a founding member of an on campus advocacy group called Spectrum. Dustin also volunteers at various events that are held on campus, including open houses and is part of the Orientation Staff who assist first year students.

The award is based on narrative submissions from member schools and measures the impact each student makes on their campus as well as their excellence as a student programmer. A&M-Texarkana Assistant Director of Student Life, Celeste McNiel, is very pleased about Dustin’s accomplishment. “The conference in Houston had well over 400 attendees and we are thrilled that Dustin Nix was selected as the winner this year,” said McNiel. “He is so deserving of this award.”
