Texas A&M University-Texarkana Counseling Services, the Residence Hall Association, Spectrum and First Year Experience are working together to raise awareness for Suicide Prevention Day on Thursday, Sept. 10.

The departments and organizations are collecting shoes to display on the University Center lawn to represent students whose lives were lost due to suicide. Donation boxes for shoes are located outside University Center Student Life office and Bringle Lake Village main lobby through Sept. 7.

The goal is to collect 110 pairs of shoes, with each pair representing 10 suicides by college students. The shoes will be donated to Goodwill after the event.

A Suicide Prevention Awareness Blacklight Party is set for 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Sept. 10 in the University Center game room.

Music, food and door prizes will be available.
