A&M-Texarkana Announces Fall 2015 Enrollment

Published: October 9, 2015

Undergraduate enrollment at Texas A&M University-Texarkana for the fall 2015 semester increased half a percent from fall 2014, with 1,422 undergraduates registered in credit courses.

Graduate enrollment remained stable from 2014, with a total of 464 students registered in fall 2015, for a total headcount enrollment of 1,886. Registration for the second eight-week session of the fall 2015 semester is still open through Oct. 19.

“We are pleased with our enrollment numbers for the fall semester given the fact that many nontraditional students have gone back to work with improvements in the economy,” said President Dr. Emily Cutrer. “The addition of 60 or so baseball players for our new baseball team also helped contribute to our overall enrollment picture."

Dr. Cutrer said the university has completely revamped its enrollment-services model and is focusing not only on the Texarkana region but on continuing to serve as a destination campus.

“Our overall goal is to be a diverse community of learners in support of economic opportunities in the region and the state. This means we are reaching out to areas such as the I-30 West and U.S. Highway 59 corridors to recruit students who are interested in the academic programs we have to offer,” Dr. Cutrer said.

"We are aggressively moving forward with new degrees, including a four-year nursing program that students can begin taking courses toward this semester.”

Another factor in attracting and retaining students is a comprehensive student-life program, Dr. Cutrer said.

“While we have an award-winning student-life program, we have a tremendous need for a wellness and recreation center to round out the university experience for our students,” Dr. Cutrer said.

“We are moving forward with plans to build a wellness and recreation center as funds become available for planning and construction.

"With the addition of a new academic building in the next two years, expanded program offerings, and a student wellness and recreation center, we believe we can accommodate additional students in support of the needs of the region and state.”
