The Success Center at Texas A&M University-Texarkana is collecting new and gently worn hats and gloves for distribution to the homeless in the Texarkana region through HUGS for the Homeless-Texarkana.
According to the current official homeless count conducted by the Texarkana Homeless Coalition, 48 percent of the city's homeless are on the streets because of unemployment, job loss, or inability to pay rent/mortgage.
Of those, the largest identified need was clothing and food. HUGS’ mission is to provide clean hats, underwear, gloves and socks to those in need.
