A&M-Texarkana Sets Spring 2016 Commencement Ceremony
Texas A&M University-Texarkana will celebrate its spring 2016 commencement ceremony Saturday, May 14, at 10 a.m. at the First Baptist Church of Texarkana on Moores Lane in Texarkana, Texas.
A total of 216 students will receive master’s and baccalaureate degrees. Approximately 184 students are expected to participate in the ceremony.
Judy Morgan of Texarkana, Texas, a member of the Texas A&M University System Board of Regents will bring greetings from the A&M System.
Charles Schwartz of Houston, also a member of the A&M System Board of Regents, will deliver the commencement address.
Following Regent Schwartz’s remarks, Dr. Emily Cutrer, president of A&M-Texarkana, and Dr. Rosanne Stripling, provost and vice president for academic and student affairs, will present the candidates and confer the master’s and baccalaureate degrees.
Dr. Bill McHenry, dean of graduate studies and research at A&M-Texarkana, will present academic hoods to recipients of master’s degrees. Organist will be Vickie Al-Dubais.
Regent Schwartz is a partner, Houston office leader, and head of litigation at Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom LLP. He graduated from The University of Texas Law School in 1977 and Harvard Law School with an LL.M. in 1980.
He is a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers and is a member of the American Law Institute. He is a former Director of the State Bar of Texas from 2000 to 2004 and served as its Chairman from 2002 to 2003. He is a Life Benefactor Fellow of the American Bar Foundation and is a Sustaining Life Fellow of the Texas Bar Foundation and Houston Bar Foundation. He received the Dan Rugeley Price Memorial Award from the Texas Bar Foundation in 2004. He served on the Texas Commission for Lawyer Discipline from 2008 to 2014. He has been recognized by numerous publications including Chambers USA: America’s Leading Lawyers for Business, 2013 BTI Client Service All-Stars, Best Lawyers in America and Texas Lawyer Go-To Guide.
Regent Schwartz was appointed to the Board of Regents by Governor Rick Perry in 2013. He is serving his second term as chair of the Committee on Finance and serves as a member of the Committee on Buildings and Physical Plant. He has served on the Policy Review Committee and the Committee on Academic and Student Affairs. Mr. Schwartz also serves as a board member of the Board for Lease of University Lands. His term expires Feb. 1, 2019.
