A&M-Texarkana Offers Employment Law Certificate Course
Texas A&M University-Texarkana, in conjunction with The Center for Legal Studies, will offer an online Employment Law Certificate Course, beginning Jan. 9.
Employment law is a branch of contract law that deals with relationships between employers and employees. This non-credit course will cover statutes such as the National Labor Relations Act, the Railway Labor Act and other various laws dealing with public employees.
Participants will discuss the history of employment law and learn how to distinguish employment from independent contracting and employment at will from wrongful discharge. They also will learn to identify torts that can be brought against employers and will examine discrimination in hiring.
Other topics include accommodation in working conditions, unfair labor practices, disability discrimination and accommodations, labor organizations, constitutional protections against discrimination, and age discrimination in hiring and in retirement.
Successful graduates of this course will be awarded a Certificate of Completion from Texas A&M University-Texarkana. The Center for Legal Studies is recognized by the Society for Human Resources Management to offer Professional Development Credits (PDCs) for the SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP SM.
Course tuition is $729. Cost of required textbook is approximately $149.
