Texas A&M University-Texarkana has unveiled the first phase of its new Eagle Landing walkway at a dedication ceremony in front of the University Center on the Texas A&M University-Texarkana campus.

The A&M-Texarkana Alumni Association kicked off its Eagle Landing program last year to raise funds for scholarships by offering alumni, family members, faculty, staff and friends of the university an opportunity to sponsor an engraved brick in the walkway leading to the University Center entrance.

“We are thrilled to be able to unveil the first group of engraved bricks that will make up The Eagle Landing,” said LaTonya McElroy, chair of the A&M-Texarkana Alumni Association’s Eagle Landing program. “The Eagle Landing is not just a group of names. It represents the love we have for our students, our alumni, our faculty and staff, our university, and our communities … and the engraved bricks are a way to embed in stone the many memories made here at A&M-Texarkana.”

The Alumni Association takes brick orders year round, McElroy said, adding that bricks will be installed annually.  Cost is $100 per brick.

“Your presence here today is helping add another chapter to the rich history of A&M-Texarkana,” said A&M-Texarkana Student Ambassador Jonathan Nonmacher. “The Eagle Landing serves as yet another sign of support from our Alumni Association, students, faculty, staff and community. It represents another milestone in the growth of our university and another tradition for the students and the university community.”

For almost 30 years, the A&M-Texarkana Alumni Association has worked to generate funding for scholarships for students at A&M-Texarkana, said Mark Missildine with the A&M-Texarkana Alumni Relations office.

“One day, I hope that we will be able to replace all of the bricks we are standing on with engraved bricks,” McElroy said.
