Young Writers’ Workshop Closing Ceremony is Friday
Participants in the 2017 Texarkana Young Writers' Workshop at Texas A&M University-Texarkana will showcase their creative works at a closing ceremony at 9:30 a.m. Friday, July 28, in Eagle Hall of the University Center on the A&M-Texarkana campus at 7101 University Ave.
Every summer, the A&M-Texarkana English program sponsors the Texarkana Young Writers’ Workshop, a two-week program open to students in second to 12th grades from across the region.
YWW participants spend their time engaged in reading, writing and artistic activities designed to develop and deepen their understanding of genres and themes often left underexplored in traditional classrooms. Participants explore genres including myths, fairy tales, travel memoirs, adventure writing, proposals, poetry, one-day plays, character sketches, short fiction and graphic novels.
By the end of the program, the young writers have much to show from their efforts, products they showcase in the final closing ceremony open to parents, family, and campus and community friends.
Students then have the opportunity to publish their best work in the program’s annual anthology.
