A&M-Texarkana Welcomes Students with Best Week Ever 2017

Published: August 25, 2017

Plans are underway for the Best Week Ever 2017 welcome week Aug. 28-Sept. 1 at Texas A&M University-Texarkana.

Hosted by the Campus Activities Board and the Office of Student Life, Best Week Ever is designed to welcome students to the campus and community and to engage them in a variety of co-curricular activities.

Celeste McNeil, director of Student Life at A&M-Texarkana, said the annual welcome week will include something for everyone, with events ranging from comedy shows, student organization workshops, Lawn Olympics, bingo, a cookie social and a movie night.

One of the highlights of Best Week Ever will be the Spotlight on Texarkana 2017 on Tuesday, Aug. 29, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the University Center. More than 70 local businesses, restaurants, attractions, clubs and organizations will be on hand to showcase the Texarkana community and A&M-Texarkana campus.  The free event is open to the public.

Four other events of general interest include Party Like a Pirate hosted by the John F. Moss Library on Monday, Aug. 28, at 11 a.m.; the Samuel Comroe Comedy Show on Monday at 7 p.m. in Eagle Hall in the University Center; an outdoor movie, “Power Rangers,” on the University Center lawn on Tuesday, Aug. 29, at 8:30 p.m.; and a performance by comedy hypnotist Sailesh on Wednesday, Aug. 30, at 7 p.m. in Eagle Hall. All are free and open to the public.

Comroe, a Los Angeles native and a New York City transplant, is a stand-up comedian who performs at more than 100 clubs and colleges annually. He made his TV debut on TBS' Conan and has appeared on BET's “Real Husbands of Hollywood” with Kevin Hart. He is the winner of Ricky Gervais' Comedy Competition and the San Francisco Comedy Competition. His comedy focuses on his experiences living with Tourette syndrome since being diagnosed at age 6 and observational material based on his life.

Dubbed “The World’s Best Hypnotist” by MTV Europe, Sailesh’s live show has been described as a cross between a concert and the best party ever. He has been named Campus Activities Magazine’s 2016-17 Entertainer of the Year and Best Novelty Act for the past two years. He was also named the Association for the Promotion of Campus Activities’ 2014 Hypnotist of the Year.

Directed by Dean Israelite and written by John Gatins, “Power Rangers” is a 2017 American superhero film based on the team of the same name. The film features the main characters of the “Mighty Morphin Power Rangers” television series with a new cast, starring Dacre Montgomery, Naomi Scott, RJ Cyler, Becky G, Ludi Lin, Bill Hader, Bryan Cranston and Elizabeth Banks.
