A&M-Texarkana Professor to Discuss Philosophy of Science and Technology

Published: November 13, 2017

Dr. Walter Casey

Dr. Walter Casey, associate professor of political science at Texas A&M University-Texarkana, will present a Program for Learning and Community Engagement lecture titled "The Philosophy and Ethic of Science and Technology," on Tuesday, Nov. 14, at 1 p.m. in University Center 217 on the A&M-Texarkana campus at 7101 University Ave., Texarkana, Texas.

“As research and technology are changing society and the way we live, sciences’ claims of objectivity and neutrality ring false,” said Dr. Casey. “This lecture focuses on why they consider the ethical and social aspects of their work. The ethics of science and technology is a collective problem that involves all of us.”

PLACE is a faculty-led program designed to create a community of learners comprising A&M-Texarkana students, faculty, staff and the community at large. PLACE chooses an annual theme around which to organize a lecture series and other activities that provide focal points for learning and discussion. This year’s theme is “Science and Technology.”
