SVA and Veteran Services Office Host Veterans Week Celebration

The Texas A&M University-Texarkana Veterans Services office and Student Veterans Association will celebrate Veterans Week Nov. 6-11 in honor of the nation’s veterans and active-duty military.

On Monday, Nov. 6, at 6 p.m., the Student Veterans Association will have a screening of “Megan Leavy” in Eagle Lounge of the University Center.

Students, faculty, staff and community members will have an opportunity access various organizations and resources at the Military Community Information Fair on Tuesday, Nov. 7, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Eagle Lounge on the first floor of the University Center.

On Wednesday, Nov. 8, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., students, faculty, staff and campus visitors will have an opportunity to test their military abilities on a military obstacle course on the University Center lawn. There also will be a military vehicle display.

On Thursday, Nov. 9, there will be a Texas Women’s Veterans speaker at 11:30 a.m. in University Center 116. At 12:30 p.m., the Student Veterans Association will sponsor a barbecue on the University Center lawn.

“Red Shirt Friday” will be celebrated on Friday, Nov. 10. Students, faculty, staff and members of the community are encouraged to wear red in honor of those who are currently deployed.

Throughout the week in the University Center lobby, individuals may purchase flags in memory or honor of past and present service members for a $1 donation to the Student Veterans Association. The flags will be planted at 9 a.m. on Friday prior to a Veterans Ceremony at 11 a.m.  A reception will follow.

On Saturday, Nov. 11, students, faculty and staff will participate in the Veterans Day parade at 11 a.m. in downtown Texarkana.

All students, faculty, staff and the community at large are invited to join in the Veterans Week celebration.
