Sara Branch

TAMUT Biology Student

When TAMUT biology student Sarah Branch walks into her job every day, she has no idea where it will take her. Lots of people travel while they earn a living, but few do it in a Bell 407 helicopter. Branch is a flight nurse with Air Evac LifeTeam based in DeQueen, Arkansas.

Branch already holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing, but came to TAMUT to take additional biology courses as she prepares for the MCAT and eventually medical school. “I talked to some coworkers about the biology program at A&M-Texarkana,” she said. “They just raved about the campus and the program, and they were right,” she added. “I felt so welcome from the very beginning. The environment at TAMUT was easy to acclimate to, and the professors are more personable and approachable than other places,” commented Branch. “I like that it’s a part of a large university system. It’s a small school with a big reputation.”

When she’s not cruising 1500 feet off the ground or busy studying, Branch does volunteer work as a peer counselor in Critical Incident Stress Management, working with first responders to reduce the severe stress and psychological issues that can come from working in severe trauma situations. She also teaches CPR for the Arkansas Heart Association and teaches Pediatric Advanced Life Support and Advanced Cardio Life Support to nurses and medics.
