A&M-Texarkana Announces Eagle Promise Initiative
TEXARKANA, Texas – Texas A&M University-Texarkana held a press conference on Wednesday, April 26th to announce the university’s new “Eagle Promise” initiative. The initiative is a new campaign aimed at eliminating tuition costs entirely for students from Texas and Miller County, Arkansas who are Pell eligible and whose families make less than $50,000 annually.
62% of the university’s students are eligible for some amount of relief under Federal Pell Grants, but most of those students do not qualify for enough aid to fully cover their tuition. The new initiative will fill in the gap, fully covering the tuition balance for 12 credit hours per semester after the Pell grants have been awarded.
The Eagle Promise funding is available for the fall and spring 2023-2024 academic semesters for new and returning students who meet the following criteria:
- Must be a Texas resident or Miller County, Arkansas resident who is a full-time, degree-seeking undergraduate student.
- Must have been in college less than four years.
- Must complete the FAFSA® and all financial aid documents by May 30, 2023.
- Must be admitted to the university by May 30, 2023.
- Must have an annual family income less than $50,000 and be Pell eligible.
“The Eagle Promise Program is a commitment from Texas A&M University – Texarkana to promote access to higher education by removing financial barriers that might limit opportunities for low-income students,” said Michael Fuller, A&M-Texarkana Director of Financial Aid and Veteran Services.
“This is an important initiative, and we are excited that we are going to have it in place for the upcoming fall semester,” said Texas A&M University-Texarkana President Dr. Emily Cutrer. “We know that paying for college is one of the biggest concerns for most college students. The Eagle Promise will allow us to make a college degree more accessible for many students not only in Texas, but in Miller County, Arkansas as well.”
