- 1971: A&M-Texarkana was established as East Texas State University at Texarkana, an upper-level center offering junior, senior, and graduate-level coursework. Its primary mission was to serve transfer students and working adults in the Texarkana area.
- 1973: The institution began offering classes in Texarkana, initially sharing facilities with local schools and businesses.
Transition to the Texas A&M University System
- 1996: East Texas State University, along with its branch in Texarkana, joined the Texas A&M University System, becoming Texas A&M University-Texarkana. This transition marked a new era of growth and development for the institution.
Expansion and Development
- 2009: A&M-Texarkana transitioned to a four-year university, admitting its first freshman class. This significant milestone expanded its academic offerings and student population.
- 2010: The university moved to its current campus on Bringle Lake, a state-of-the-art facility designed to enhance student life and academic success.
