CFLI Initiatives

Education Programs: The CFLI provides financial literacy programs online and face-to-face workshops and classes on campus and at various locations throughout the community.

Investment Club: A club focused on collaborative learning and real-world experience in investment strategies.

Student Managed Investment Fund (SMIF): Participating students can manage investment portfolios using real money and collaborate closely with finance faculty and financial professionals.

Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA): Trained volunteers assist students, faculty, staff, and the larger community and region with tax preparation.

Research: TAMUT faculty collaborate on research related to financial literacy, economics, and banking focused on the East Texas region, using the Bloomberg Finance Lab, Moody's Analytics BankFocus, and other tools and software.
Better East Texas Initiative
Better East Texas (BET) is an initiative by Texas A&M University-Texarkana aimed at addressing the educational, healthcare, and economic needs of the East Texas region. The initiative was funded in 2021 by the 87th Texas Legislature.
Financial literacy is a key component of BET. The Center for Financial Literacy and Investment (CFLI) at Texas A&M-Texarkana officially opened in 2023. It offers financial education programs and resources to students, faculty, staff, and the broader community. This includes workshops, online resources, and a Bloomberg Finance lab for students to gain practical experience.
