A&M-Texarkana Mechanical Engineering Program receives ABET Accreditation
TEXARKANA, Texas – Texas A&M University-Texarkana has announced that its undergraduate degree in Mechanical Engineering has recently been accredited through the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET). The accreditation is retroactive to October 2021 and is effective until 2029. Accredited programs undergo a reaffirmation process for accreditation every ten years.
ABET is a nonprofit, non-governmental organization that accredits college and university programs in the disciplines of applied and natural science, computing, engineering and engineering technology at the associate, bachelor’s and master’s degree levels. For more than 80 years ABET has insured that accredited programs meet rigorous quality standards that produce graduates prepared to enter a global workforce.
“Accreditation is based on a lengthy peer-review process and programs that are accredited demonstrate high educational standards,” said Dr. Melinda Arnold, A&M-Texarkana Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs. “With ABET accreditation, students and employers can be confident that A&M Texarkana’s Engineering programs meet and exceed the quality standards that produce graduates prepared to excel in today’s workforce.”
“This prestigious accreditation is an external affirmation that our Mechanical Engineering program is rigorous and thorough in its preparation of our graduates,” said Texas A&M University-Texarkana President Dr. Ross Alexander. “Our graduates leave A&M-Texarkana knowing that they have received a world-class education, and that their skills are highly valued and sought after in the workplace. Their employers understand that they have been exceptionally well prepared to meet the challenges of today’s workplace.”
The Mechanical Engineering program joins the university’s Electrical Engineering program in receiving ABET Accreditation. The university’s Electrical Engineering program was initially accredited in 2014 and was reaffirmed in 2024.
