A&M-Texarkana President Ross Alexander Thanks Texas Legislature For Funding Increase Following 89th Legislative Session

TEXARKANA, Texas – Texas A&M University-Texarkana President Dr. Ross Alexander thanked the Texas Legislature for the university’s increase in funding allocated through the 89^th Texas Legislative Regular Session which ended on June 02, 2025. The funding increase received by the university was part of an overall $226 million statewide increase to support instruction, operations, infrastructure, and research at higher education institutions across the state.

"We are deeply thankful to the State Legislature--particularly Representative VanDeaver and Senator Hughes--for the significant funding increase," stated Dr. Ross Alexander, A&M-Texarkana President. "It reflects their overall support for our unprecedented growth and ascendancy as one of the fastest-growing universities in the state, region, and nation."

With a double-digit percentage funding increase overall, TAMUT's appropriation of new dollars compares very favorably with other institutions in the state. Of special note is the 124% increase in TAMUT's allocation from the Higher Education Fund (HEF), the greatest percentage increase of any university in the Texas A&M University System and among the highest in the state.

Texas A&M University-Texarkana is currently in an era of unprecedented growth. The Summer 2025 term marked the 5^th consecutive term of record enrollment at the university, and indicators point to very strong enrollment numbers for the upcoming Fall 2025 semester. A&M-Texarkana is currently adding a number of highly sought after degree programs, significantly expanding the university’s athletic department, and is dramatically increasing the amount of student housing on campus.

University President Dr. Ross Alexander is beginning his third year of leadership at Texas A&M University-Texarkana. He is the 5^th president in the history of the institution.
