Admission Information
We’re thrilled to have you considering this rigorous journey toward becoming a physical therapist. Application for the TAMUT DPT program is completed using the PTCAS Application System found at PTCAS | Applicant Login Page Section. Below, we’ll walk you through the key steps and requirements for each of our application tracks: the Standard Admissions Track and the Early Acceptance Track.
- GRE is not required. Shadowing or work hours are not required.
- Regardless of track chosen, a bachelor's degree is required to enter the program.
- Prerequisites must be completed with an earned grade of C-or higher.
- Prerequisites must be completed at an accredited institution in the last 10 years.
- Minimum GPA for TAMUT DPT is 3.4 on a 4.0 GPA scale.
Admission Tracks
Prerequisite Coursework
Before applying, ensure that you’ve completed the following undergraduate coursework:
- Anatomy and Physiology with Lab or Physiology/A&P 2 with lab: 6–8 semester credit hours (SCH)
- Chemistry with Lab: 6–8 SCH
- Physics with Lab: 6–8 SCH
- Biology with Lab: 6–8 SCH (Note: Botany and Zoology are not accepted)
- Psychology: 3 SCH (any)
- Statistics: 3 SCH (any)
Standard Admission Track
This track is open to all applicants who have a Bachelor's degree, meet the program's prerequisites and GPA requirements. GRE is not required. Application is through PTCAS. PTCAS has a required essay. Three letters of recommendation must be submitted (not accepted from clergy or family members).
Early Acceptance Track
If you are currently a high-achieving high school or community college student, consider our Early Acceptance Track. Application is through PTCAS. DPT Admissions Counselor can assist with this process.
To qualify, you must:
- Graduate from high school with a GPA of 3.75 or higher.
- Be accepted to Texas A&M University-Texarkana (TAMUT) and begin attendance within one semester of high school or community college graduation.
- Apply to and be accepted into the Early Acceptance Track.
- Meet annually with an assigned DPT advisor.
- Join the Health Professions Club and attend a minimum of three meetings each year.
- Maintain a 3.5 GPA or higher.
- Exhibit professional behavior and maintain a clean academic record.
- Submit two letters of recommendation, one of which must come from a TAMUT instructor.
- Complete at least 30 credit hours of prerequisite coursework with a grade of “C” or higher.
- Awarding of Bachelor's Degree.
Selection Process
- Initial Screening: Faculty will review your application to ensure all program requirements are met.
- Admission Decision: Final decisions are based on a GPA of 3.4 or higher on a 4.0 scale.
- Offer of Admission: Accepted students will receive formal offers of admission and must submit a seat deposit to secure their place. Once accepted, students must apply separately to TAMUT. We will also maintain a waitlist in case additional spots become available later in the cycle.
