Write Out 2024

We are happy to announce that the winner of the East Texas Writing Project’s Write Out poetry contest is Brittany Robles for her poem, “Not Enough.”


What is Write Out?

Write Out is a two-week celebration of writing, making, and sharing
inspired by the great outdoors. Sponsored annually by the National Writing Project and the
National Park Service, 2024 marks the seventh year of Write Out.

This year, the East Texas Writing Project at A&M-Texarkana and the Division of Humanities 
hosted a poetry contest with two age groups that ended on Sunday, October 27, the National Day
on Writing.

Poetry for the Planet Contest

Who is eligible to participate?

Adult Writers Contest: Any campus or community member 18 or older in the
Four States region (residing/attending school within 150 miles of the A&M-Texarkana campus).

Young Writers Contest: Any campus or community member under the age of 18
in the Four States region (residing/attending school within 150 miles of the A&M-Texarkana campus).

How do I participate?

Submit an original poem on nature, Earth, or similar theme.

Requirements:

  • One poem per entry; one entry per contestant
  • Limit poems to 300 words or less.
  • No previously published works
  • Poems must be submitted by 9:00 PM, Sunday, October 27, 2024.
  • Include contact information at the bottom of the page.

How do I win, and what does the winner receive?

  • Winner will be determined by neutral judges employed at Texas A&M University-Texarkana.
  • The top three pieces in each category will be considered for publication in a
    forthcoming issue of Aquila Review, Texas A&M-Texarkana’s literary journal.
  • In addition to publication consideration, the first-place winner receives $100 Amazon
    gift card. (Note: the winner must sign a gift card acknowledgement form with the
    university to receive their prize.)
